I would highly recommend Ro-Anne as a driving instructor for anyone with a disability. I am a 59-year-old female with a left hemiplegia post clip of a cerebral aneurysm. I was unsure of what type of device I would feel best suited to, and Ro-Anne was able to supply both devices so I could test drive and finally settle on the Lodgesons R210 Ball Grip Spinner with controls. Throughout our lessons she was very patient, understanding and informative. With Ro-Anne’s knowledge I was also able to brush up on some road rules that I was unsure of. I had six lessons in total and would have happily done more but Ro-Anne assured me that in her opinion I was ready to undertake an assessment for the PDA, which I passed thanks to her efforts. Ro-Anne is a special person who has a genuine love for what she does and cares for all her clients. (Her offsider Kimbo is adorable!). Thanks so much Ro-Anne, you have given me back my freedom and confidence to drive again.

"As a senior citizen who was forced to reapply for his driver’s licence due to health issues, I contacted Independent Living of WA for any recommended instructors who could offer lessons on driving with modified controls. With just a name to go by, my random choice of instructor was Ro-Anne from Drive & Pass. What an inspired choice it turned out to be for me! Over the weeks of instruction by Ro-Anne, I gained confidence and knowledge of how to operate the modified controls which after 50 years of driving using foot controls was a daunting challenge for me. Ro-Anne allowed me to feel comfortable with the whole transition process to using modified controls with her delightfully accommodating sense of humor, her understanding of the challenges I faced and her unquestioning patience whenever I became frustrated with the learning experience. Roanne went above & beyond what I expected from a driving instructor for my son Hayden. Her gentle & calm approach made Hayden feel confident & happy when learning how to drive. Hayden looked forward to his lessons. When Hayden experienced a setback (of a discriminatory kind during his first PDA) Roanne did not take that lightly & stood up for Hayden as she would for all her students (I have no doubt about that). I struggled with getting my license for about 5 years and had essentially given up on it before my parents found Ro-Anne. Having previously trialled other driving instructors who said that they were specialists in teaching people with anxiety but who did not seem to quell my driving anxiety I was uncertain of trying another instructor. I can say with near certainty that I would have given up on driving a long time ago had it not been for Ro-Anne’s incredible patience and unique ability to work out how to help me calm down in panic attack provoking situations. Striking the right balance between being patient and knowing when to push to achieve potential, my daughter quickly gained in confidence and competence under Ro-Anne’s professional and careful guidance. My daughter quickly overcame her anxiety and looked forward to each lesson and the new challenges presented.

"My name is Beth, and as a mature-age (non-high school) learner driver I struggled for many years with the stigma of "waiting so long" to learn to drive. This was on top of struggling with driving-related anxiety (which was exacerbated when a previous instructor I encountered used fear-tactics in her teaching methods). I stopped attempting to drive or making progress for two years after this negative experience. In 2016 (age 23), although acutely aware of my previous bad experience, I decided to search for a driving instructor who was compassionate and professional, and most importantly, someone who had experience dealing with the struggles of anxiety and driving related stress. I was so lucky to have found Ro-Anne. Initially, it was her experience with teaching learner drivers with disabilities that encouraged me to contact her about starting lessons, but after meeting with her and being able to speak openly about my situation, we both agreed that although it might take a long time, together we could build up my driving confidence enough to pass my Practical Driving Assessment. Although it definitely took months of hard work (and yes there were some tears haha) to build up my confidence and my skills, and I certainly had some setbacks (pre-emptively booking my first PDA and subsequently failing). Once I came to terms with the fact that you can't "fake" truly feeling comfortable with driving, and after more hard work and confidence-building lessons, a few months later I passed my second driving test with flying colours (proudly, I only lost two points total). Even as a learner driver I feel more in control of my driving and just genuinely optimistic for the remainder of my journey as novice driver. If you are looking at driving again as a mature-age driver or if you have/currently experience driving-related anxiety, I cannot recommend Ro-Anne to you enough! Once you accept that sometimes the learning process might not be quick or painless as we’d like it to be, you can be 100% confident that Ro-Anne is experienced, ready and willing to help to guide you through this journey. Building the confidence to pass your driving test is important, but it's the feeling of being confident to drive safely on your own for the rest of your life, that makes paying for good education and training, absolutely priceless. :) Thank you so much Ro-Anne, for everything you have done for me! “Drive and Pass with Ro-Anne Steele was one of the recommendations given to me by Independent Living WA. I started my first lesson with her in late August-early September and immediately, I could tell she was the right instructor for me.
Though firm at times, she is so for good reason. Ro-Anne will always stress and explain the reasons behind why you must do the safety checks and actions for you to understand very clearly and thoroughly. She does not mind repeating herself if you need it to understand or because you were too focused driving to hear and is very patient with you. She is always honest about how she feels about where you are at and what you must work on in order to improve.
Ro-Anne will thoroughly take you through what to expect in a driving test, as well as what roads and what area they will take you down to familiarise yourself with the area. It was because of this I passed my driving test in Mirrabooka on my first attempt in just one year behind the wheel; and I am a young adult woman with Asperger's Syndrome in my mid 20s.

I began to slowly lose the ability to drive using foot pedals in my 70s and eventually realised that enough was enough and that I needed to transition to driving using hand controls. I knew this was going to be difficult, but it proved even more challenging that I first imagined. In retrospect, I suspect this was hardly surprising given that I had been driving for over 50 years.
I was incredibly lucky to have Ro-Anne Steele as my driving instructor. She is very professional and most importantly for people with a disability, she is incredibly empathetic and understanding. For some unknown reason, I was prone to get flustered when confronted with something new and Ro-Anne was a calming influence, who was able to steer me through these periods and get me back on track. In the process, she installed in me the confidence that I needed when I came to take the driving assessment.
I strongly recommend Ro-Anne as a driving instructor if you have a disability and want to drive again or indeed drive for the first time. She is an absolutely first-class instructor and has the empathy and understanding to help people with disabilities come to terms with the challenges of driving.

"I had my Learner's Permit for quite a long time and although I had parents teach me the basics of driving, I needed an instructor to make sure I was driving properly. I was referred to Ro-Anne through a family friend because we heard she was good with autistic people, even though I didn't think my autism would be an issue. I'm lucky I had the privilege to go with such a good instructor. Ro-Anne was very thorough and up to date, with a great knowledge of road rules, better than a lot of drivers I have seen. Ro-Anne ticks all the boxes for teaching you how to drive at any stage of your life and having to overcome any obstacles. As a parent with a son on the spectrum i just want to acknowledge Ro-Anne for doing a fantastic job at teaching my son how to drive. My son has been doing lessons with Ro-Anne for 3 and a half years and has learnt so much from her.Ro-Anne has got alot of experience with teaching people with any kind of dissability to learn how to drive and has a very caring and patient nature and is understanding which alot of people need when learning how to drive.
Aniexty was a big issue for my son but with each lesson Ro-Anne knew how to make the lesson calm and relaxing.
My son enjoyed going to he's lessons and i recommend Ro-Anne hands down for anyone looking to do lessons with a specialised driving instructor.
My son will miss he's weekly lesson as he has just passed he's PDA on the 3rd go. Wouldn't have happened without Ro-Anne's patience, persistence and understanding. Highly recommend. Thank you.
